Our school is like all other schools, but at the same time it’s different. It was established specifically for teaching and educating children with hard speech pathologies, for delivering them special help that would contribute to overcoming speech disturbances and related peculiarities of the psychological development.
Our boarding school is located in the very center of the ancient town of Kozelsk, Kaluga oblast, Russia. The territory we occupy is very small, therefore our sports ground and recreation area are not too large. We also have our own household area where our garages, laundry, stockrooms, kitchen garden and flower beds are situated.
The boarding-school for the children with speech problems has been working since 1974. It currently enrolls about 150 children aged from 6 to 18. The children come form 20 different areas of the Kaluga oblast and belong to different socio-pedagogical groups. So, for example, according to the data for the 2005-2006 academic year 48 children were from the families with many children (more than 3), 57 were from not full families, 30 were from troubled families, 17 children were orphans. |
